Privacy Policy for CopyFilenames

Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how CopyFilenames ("the application") handles user data and privacy. CopyFilenames is a Windows File Explorer extension that provides commands to copy the names, paths, attributes and checksums of files and folders to the clipboard, and commands to rename files.

Information Collection

CopyFilenames does not collect any personal information while you use it.

The application works entirely on your local device and does not:

• Collect usage statistics
• Track your activity
• Send the names or contents of your files and folders anywhere

The only time CopyFilenames connects to the internet is when you activate a PRO license, as described below.

License Validation

When you activate a PRO license, the application communicates with our licensing server to validate your license. During this process:

• Information sent to our server: Your license token, and a hardware fingerprint (a scrambled identifier that cannot be used to determine any information about your machine). For enterprise customers only, if you activate a license in user mode, then your Windows sign-in name (your user principal name, which usually looks like an email address, such as [email protected]) will be sent so that the license can be associated with that user.
• Information received from our server: The name provided during license purchase, which is displayed as the "licensed to" name within the application.

Our server keeps a record of each activation with your order: the hardware fingerprint, the Windows sign-in name for a user mode activation, the IP address the request came from, and the date. This information is used solely for license validation and to prevent unauthorized use, and is kept for as long as we keep your order.

File System Access

CopyFilenames only accesses your file system to:

1. Read file and folder names, paths and attributes when you explicitly request this action via the context menu
2. Read the contents of a file to calculate its checksum, when you explicitly request this action via the context menu
3. Rename files and folders when you explicitly request this action via the context menu

The CopyFilenamesCL command line tool does the same when you run it.

Data Storage

The application does not maintain any database, logs, or persistent storage of your file system information. It stores its settings, any filter presets you save, and your license (including the "licensed to" name) on your computer, and nowhere else.

Third-Party Services

CopyFilenames does not utilize any third-party analytics tools or advertising platforms. The only external communication is with our own licensing server as described above.

Purchases and Our Website

When you buy a license, your order is processed by Paddle, our reseller. The information we hold about your order, and your rights over it, are covered by the ExtraBit Software Privacy Policy, which also covers our website.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
